About Us

The Joshua Al-Lateef Jr. Foundation was created in memory of our beloved son, Joshua. He taught us the beauty and challenges of autism, inspiring us to support families navigating similar journeys. Our mission is to provide resources and understanding to those affected by autism.

Joshua Light Lives On

Our Story

The Joshua Al-Lateef Jr. Foundation was created in loving memory of Joshua Al-Lateef Jr., who was full of rhythm curiosity, and joy. Though diagnosed with autism at the age of two and a half years old and nonverbal, he expressed himself beautifully through movement and music. Whether tapping beats with his drumstick or exploring the world around him, Joshua's presence was vibrant and unforgettable.

In 2024, Joshua tragically lost his life in a drowning accident at his apartment complex. His passing revealed a painful reality: neurodivergent children face increased risks around water and environmental safety

Joshua's life was full of light.

In the wake of unimaginable loss, his mother made a promise: that Joshua's light would continue to shine. What began as grief transformed into a purpose. That became The Joshua Al-Lateef Jr. Foundation.

How We Help

Today our vision is rooted in protection, empowerment, and committed to supporting neurodiverse children and their families through:

  • Adaptive aquatic instruction focused on water safety

  • Advocacy efforts, including Autism-Specific Alert Systems

  • Companion animal therapy

  • Early childhood development support

  • Music therapy for emotional and cognitive growth

  • Therapeutic retreats for social development and connection

Our work focuses on preventing avoidable tragedies-particularly water related incidents-while providing meaningful resources for families navigating autism and neurodiversity.

Joshua's legacy is not defined by how he passed.

It is defined by how he lived.

And through awareness, advocacy, and action, his light continue to protect and empower childrens every day.
